What white is usually paired with

Of the 137 flags that include white, these are the colours it shares a flag with most often.

40 of them are two-colour flags, where white is half the whole design. One flag is measured as this colour alone: South Korea.

How this list is defined

A flag is on this list when white covers at least 7 percent of its opaque area, measured at build time from the official public-domain SVG. That threshold is deliberate: it keeps outlines, anti-aliasing and the fine detail inside a coat of arms from counting as a colour of the flag, while still catching a genuine stripe or charge.

Two exceptions are built in. A very dark but strongly saturated colour keeps its hue instead of being called black, so a bottle green stays green. And red reaches into the crimson range, because a great many flag reds sit there. The full method is on the data page, so this is a claim you can check rather than one you have to take on trust.

What the method does not capture is layout. Two flags built from the same colour families can look nothing alike, so treat this as a colour index and not as a ruling on which flags resemble each other.

Frequently asked questions

How many flags have the colour white?
137 of the 250 flags on Flagdex include white among their main colours, which is about 55 percent.
Which part of the world uses white most on its flags?
Europe, where 34 of 53 flags carry white. The full regional breakdown is on this page.
Which colour appears with white most often?
Red, on 104 of the 137 flags that include white.
How is a flag decided to be white?
By measurement, not by eye. Each official flag SVG is rasterised at build time and every opaque pixel is classified into a colour family from its hue, saturation and lightness. A family counts when it covers at least 7 percent of the flag's opaque area, which keeps outlines and small emblem details out of the answer. The full method is on the data page.
