What does the flag of Central African Republic mean?
The Central African Republic's flag was designed by Barthelemy Boganda, the country's founding leader, and adopted on 1 December 1958. Its four horizontal stripes carry the meanings blue for the sky and freedom, white for peace and dignity, green for hope and faith, and yellow for tolerance, deliberately combining the blue, white and red of France with the green and yellow of Pan-Africanism. The vertical red stripe cutting through all four binds them together; Boganda called it the symbol of the blood of humanity, shed by Europeans and Africans alike. The yellow star in the canton stands for the country's aspirations and for African unity and progress.
