What does the flag of Philippines mean?

The Philippine flag's white triangle stands for liberty, equality and fraternity, with blue for peace, truth and justice and red for patriotism and valour. The golden sun in the triangle has eight rays for the eight provinces that first rose against Spanish rule in the 1896 revolution, and the three stars represent the country's main island groups: Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. Uniquely, the flag is itself a wartime signal: it is flown with the blue stripe uppermost in peacetime and inverted, red on top, in time of war. It was first unfurled at the declaration of independence on 12 June 1898.
