What does the flag of Djibouti mean?
Djibouti's flag was raised for the first time at independence on 27 June 1977, adapting the banner of the FLCS, the liberation movement that had campaigned against French rule. Its light blue stands for the sky and the sea and is associated with the Issa Somali people, the green for the everlasting green of the earth and the Afar people, and the white triangle for peace between them. The red five-pointed star at the triangle's centre represents unity and the blood shed by the martyrs of independence.
