What does the flag of Nigeria mean?

Nigeria's green-white-green design came from a nationwide competition held around independence, drawing nearly 3,000 entries; the winning design was submitted by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, a student in London at the time. In the flag as adopted on independence day, 1 October 1960, green stands for the country's agriculture and natural wealth, and white for unity and peace. Akinkunmi's original entry also included a red rising sun on the white stripe, but the national committee that finalized the design removed it before the flag was formally adopted.

Flags with the same colours as Nigeria

2 other national flags use exactly the same set of colour families (green, white). Similar colours are the most common reason flags get mistaken for one another, though colour alone says nothing about layout.
