What does the flag of Czechia mean?

The white and red of the Czech flag are the traditional colours of Bohemia, taken from the white-lion-on-red coat of arms recorded as far back as 1192. The blue triangle at the hoist was added in 1920 by Jaroslav Kursa, an archivist in the interior ministry, to distinguish the new Czechoslovak flag from Poland's white-and-red; the blue was originally associated with Slovakia, and is now read as standing for impartiality and sovereignty. When Czechoslovakia split in 1993, the dissolution law actually forbade both successor states from using the old federal symbols, but the Czech Republic kept the flag anyway, while Slovakia adopted its own design.
