What does the flag of Iran mean?

Iran's green, white and red are the pan-Iranian colours, historically tied to the nation and its identity rather than assigned separate individual meanings. Centred on the white band is the Islamic emblem: four crescents and a sword surmounted by a shaddah, together forming a stylised rendering of the Arabic word Allah. Along the inner edges of the green and red bands the Takbir is written in white Kufic script eleven times each, twenty-two times in total, a reference to 22 Bahman, the date in the Iranian calendar on which the 1979 revolution succeeded. The first official Iranian flag was adopted on 14 August 1905, and the present design dates from 29 July 1980. Tajikistan and Kurdistan use the same three colours.

Flags with the same colours as Iran

11 other national flags use exactly the same set of colour families (red, green, white). Similar colours are the most common reason flags get mistaken for one another, though colour alone says nothing about layout.
