What does the flag of Thailand mean?

Thailand's red, white and blue stripes stand for the country's unofficial motto of nation, religion and king: red for the land and its people, white for religion, and blue for the monarchy. The blue was added last, in 1917, replacing a previous elephant emblem, and the specific shade chosen is said to have been the color associated with Saturday, the day King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) was born. The redesign also happened to leave Thailand's flag sharing its color palette with the flags of Britain, France, Russia and the United States, its allies in the First World War.
