What does the flag of Liechtenstein mean?

Liechtenstein's blue and red bands stand for the sky and for the 'evening fires' lit inside houses across the principality, and the flag has been in use since 1852 and written into the constitution since 1921. The gold crown in the canton was added for a very practical reason: at the 1936 Summer Olympics the country discovered that its flag was identical to the civil flag of Haiti, so a crown was added the following year to tell them apart. A version with a modified crown was adopted on 30 June 1982.
