What does the flag of Congo mean?

The Republic of the Congo flies the Pan-African green, yellow and red in a layout no other Pan-African flag uses: a diagonal yellow band running from the lower hoist to the upper fly, separating a green triangle from a red one. In the official reading, green represents the country's agriculture and forests and yellow the friendship and nobility of the Congolese people, while the meaning of the red was deliberately left unexplained, an absence the sources themselves record. Adopted in 1959, the flag was replaced during the Marxist-Leninist People's Republic era from 1970 to 1991 by a red Soviet-style banner, and restored on 10 June 1991 when that regime ended.

Flags with the same colours as the Congo

9 other national flags use exactly the same set of colour families (red, yellow, green). Similar colours are the most common reason flags get mistaken for one another, though colour alone says nothing about layout.
