What does the flag of Kyrgyzstan mean?

The red field of Kyrgyzstan's flag stands for bravery and valour and alludes to the pennant said to have been raised by Manas, the country's folk hero. The yellow sun at the centre stands for peace and prosperity, and its 40 rays for the 40 tribes Manas united against the Mongols, and equally for the number of his followers. Inside the sun is a tunduk, the crown of a yurt roof seen from within, chosen to symbolise the origin of life, the unity of time and space, and the hearth, home and history of the Kyrgyz people. The flag was adopted in 1992, just over seven months after independence was declared, replacing the flag of the Kirghiz SSR.
