What does the flag of Bangladesh mean?

Bangladesh's flag places a red disc slightly off-centre on a bottle-green field. The green is officially described as representing the lushness of the country's landscape, and is sometimes also read as a symbol of youth and vitality. The red disc, reminiscent of the sun rising over Bengal, stands for the blood shed by Bengalis during the 1971 Liberation War that won the country its independence from Pakistan. The disc is set toward the hoist rather than the exact centre so that it appears centred when the flag is flying in the wind. Adopted on 17 January 1972, the design is a modification of the 1971 wartime flag, from which a golden silhouette of the country was removed, and is credited to the artist Quamrul Hassan.

Flags with the same colours as Bangladesh

6 other national flags use exactly the same set of colour families (red, green). Similar colours are the most common reason flags get mistaken for one another, though colour alone says nothing about layout.
