About Ljubljana

The city was first mentioned between 1112 and 1125 and received town privileges between 1220 and 1243.

A Roman city called Emona stood on the site in antiquity, and Ljubljana was later the historical capital of Carniola, one of the Slovene-inhabited lands of the Habsburg monarchy.

Ljubljana is the cultural, educational, economic, political and administrative centre of Slovenia, and the seat of its own urban municipality.

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times.
